Founded by Natalya Sats as a theatre for children, the opera house opposite Moscow’s State University is famous as the original home of Prokofiev’s Peter & the Wolf. Nowadays, under the artistic direction of Georgiy Isaakyan, Theatre Sats attracts audiences of all ages, with award-winning productions of a vast repertoire ranging from such family favourites as Nutcracker or Oliver Twist via mainstream productions of Carmen and Madam Butterfly or the historic reconstruction of Diaghilev’s last production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Golden Cockerel to the artistic challenges of Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen or Prokofiev’s Love of Three Oranges. The current season’s repertoire includes three baroque operas.

"I think contemporary theatre for young people should offer spectators a possibility to discover something new about both the world and themselves" and offer an experience "which he or she won’t find anywhere else – not in any amusement park or on the Internet."
